FAQs
  • What happens at the Teen Job Fair?
    • Teens connect with businesses and organizations for information about jobs, employment training, internships and volunteer opportunities.
    • Teens can also attend a "Get A Job Now" workshop for tips on how to find and land a job, and a "Who We Hire" panel where managers describe what they look for in employees.
  • When and where?
    Saturday, March 24, 2012 from noon - 3 p.m. at Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, 2nd Floor (up the escalators)
  • How do I get there?
    The library is two blocks from the Metro Transit Light Rail stop on Nicollet as well as being on a number of bus routes. Here is a Map.
  • Where can I park?
    There is a paid parking ramp below the library, a surface lot across the street on Nicollet Mall, and parking meters nearby.
  • What employers will be there?
    The list will be updated on this webpage. Please check back frequently.
  • How many years has HCL offered a Teen Job Fair?
    This is the sixth Fair.

  • How old do I need to be to attend?
    The majority of employers hire workers age 16 and up. Teens grade 8 and up are encouraged to attend.
  • May I bring an adult?
    Yes, parents and guardians are welcome to attend the event.
  • Will I be able to apply and/or interview for a job at the Teen Job Fair?
    Some employers attending may accept applications or conduct job interviews and some will not. You are welcome to use one of the Library's 300+ computers to complete online job applications.
  • Should I dress up?
    It is not necessary but wouldn't hurt. Some of the people you'll be talking to may be in charge of hiring. Don't pass up the opportunity to make a good first impression!
  • Should I bring a résumé?
    It is not necessary but do bring copies if you have one. You may be able to submit an application so it would be good to have all the information you would need to do so (e.g. Names and contact information for references, dates and lists of places you've volunteered or worked).

  • How do we sign up?
    Please contact the event coordinator Cynthia Matthias at Minneapolis Central Library at 612-543-8044.
  • What sort of attendance do you expect?
    Average attendance for Teen Job Fairs for the past few years topped 1000 and approximately 30 businesses and organizations exhibited.
  • Who attends the Teen Job Fair?
    Teens age 14 and up attend, sometimes with parents or guardians. These youth may or may not have work experience.
  • Who hosts tables?
    Most exhibitors are businesses and organizations based in Hennepin County. Some serve specific ethnic and diverse populations. The Fair welcomes anyone offering part-time, full-time, seasonal paid positions; volunteer positions and internships; as well as organizations that offer job training and job search assistance.
  • What does it cost for hosting a table?
    There is no charge. All exhibitors are provided a 6-ft table and chairs. There is free Wi-Fi within the library also.
  • How long is the Fair? Do we need to stay the entire time?
    Exhibitors may begin setting up at 11 a.m. The Fair runs from noon to 3 p.m. Students from Minneapolis schools are scheduled to attend at times staggered throughout the afternoon, so we encourage you to stay so you have the opportunity of meeting all of them.
  • May we hand out applications? May we interview applicants?
    Please do! If privacy is needed for conducting interviews, please let the event coordinator known ahead of time so arrangements may be made.
  • We only accept online applications. Why should we host a table?
    You will build awareness of your opportunities with teens who may not be familiar with job hunting. Teens will have access to computers in the Library to complete online applications after speaking with you.
  • We are not currently hiring. Why should we host a table?
    You will get good exposure for your organization while you help teens think about future employment and other opportunities.
  • We need youth who fit a specfic criteria. Why should we host a table?
    Many Minneapolis teens are specifically invited to attend and may be eligible. You would raise awareness of alternative opportunities for youth as well as raise the profile of your program. Besides, attending teens may have a friend who meets your criteria.
