If an item is checked in at a Hennepin County library, you can call and ask staff to hold it for you at that location or to send it to another Hennepin County library.

Most items can be requested and sent to any Hennepin County library using the library catalog or Ask Us. You will be notified when your item is ready to pick up, and the item will be held for 8 days. If the pickup location is closed on the 8th day, the hold expiration date will be the next open day.

For requests and holds combined, the limit is 30 items per card.

Managing your requests
Use My Account: Requests to view requests or to cancel requests that are not needed. You can also Ask Us to get help from staff.

You can set your requests to "suspended" status when you will be unable to pick up them up (while on vacation, etc.) A suspended request will continue to move up the waiting list but will not be filled until you set the status back to "active" or the suspend date expires. Use My Account: Requests to suspend or activate your requests or Ask Us to get help from staff.

You can use the My List feature in the library catalog to save a list of items that you may want to request in the future. Read more about using My List.

Interlibrary Loan
Use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to request items that are not available through Hennepin County Library.
